How EMI Locker works — step by step

Step 1 — Register & Buy Keys

Register your retailer account on EMI Locker. Top up your wallet via UPI, NEFT, or RTGS. Each key costs ₹60 (volume pricing available). Keys are available immediately in your panel. No waiting, no approval delays.

Step 2 — Enroll Phone at Point of Sale

At the point of sale, the customer installs the EMI Locker app on the phone. The retailer adds the customer in the retailer app — enrollment is automatic. The device comes under your control without wiping customer data and without any manual steps on the device. Android 9.0+ required (Android 10+ for all controls).

Step 3 — Track Payments in Dashboard

Your retailer dashboard shows every financed device: payment status, next due date, days overdue, AI risk score, device location changes, SIM swap events, and collection assistant recommendations. All on one screen. No spreadsheets.

Step 3a — AI Reminders Fire Before Due Date

The AI collection assistant sends automated WhatsApp messages and call reminders to customers approaching their due date. High-risk accounts (scored by the AI) get priority reminder sequences. You get fewer defaults without making calls yourself.

Step 4 — Trigger Remote Lock on Missed Payment

If a customer misses a payment and ignores reminders, select their device in the dashboard and trigger a lock. The phone receives the command via Firebase Cloud Messaging and executes lockNow() via DevicePolicyManager. The lock screen activates within 60 seconds — even if the phone has a SIM swap or is offline, the lock queues and executes on next connection.

Step 5 — Release Lock After Payment

Customer confirms payment. You release the lock from the dashboard. The phone unlocks within 60 seconds. The device returns to normal use. Audit trail records the lock/unlock events, timestamps, payment confirmation, and who triggered each action.

What makes EMI Locker's lock unbypassable?

Unlike accessibility-based EMI apps, EMI Locker uses Android Device Owner mode. Here's why that matters.

Device Owner Mode (DPC)

  • ✅ Lock persists even if Settings is opened
  • ✅ Cannot be uninstalled from Play Store
  • ✅ Survives Safe Mode boot
  • ✅ Factory reset blocked by automatic FRP — device cannot be set up without retailer release
  • ✅ SIM swap triggers automatic lock
  • ✅ Google Play Protect compliant

Accessibility Service Apps

  • ❌ Disabled from Settings → Accessibility in 30 seconds
  • ❌ Uninstalled via ADB or Play Store
  • ❌ Bypassed with Safe Mode boot
  • ❌ Factory reset removes all enforcement
  • ❌ SIM swap detection not possible
  • ❌ Often flagged by Play Protect

How EMI Lock Works — FAQ

The retailer adds the customer in the EMI Locker retailer app — and the phone enrolls automatically. No QR code scanning, no factory reset, no manual steps at the device. The process takes only a few minutes and any shop staff can handle it. Curious about how it works behind the scenes? Talk to our team.

Trigger lock from your dashboard. The command is pushed to the device over the internet and the lock screen activates within 60 seconds. If offline, the command queues and executes on next network connection. Your shop name and overdue payment message appear on the lock screen.

Factory Reset Protection (FRP) is automatically active on every enrolled device — you don't set it up separately, it's just there. If the customer tries to factory reset, the phone becomes stuck and cannot be set up without your authorization from the panel. There is no bypass path. The device effectively locks itself and waits for you to release it.

A custom lock screen showing your shop name, a missed payment message, and a contact number to call. Emergency calls remain available. No other apps, phone calls, internet access, or camera access until the lock is released from your dashboard after payment confirmation.
